What is the YES Program?

YES, Youth Excellence in Service, has been developed to recognize and reward Laramie County youth who are doing extraordinary volunteer service in their communities.

Awards–

The top nominees will be honored at a special recognition dinner in May. Each recipient will receive a $500 cash award and a sculpture marking their accomplishment. Recipients’ portraits will be displayed in the Laramie County Governmental Complex.

Criteria for nominating someone for YES:

Nominee must be a student attending grades 6 through 12. Nominee must demonstrate satisfactory progress in school with a 2.5 or better GPA. The volunteer activity for which nominee is nominated cannot result in any type of compensation. (i.e. scholarship or wages) The nominee’s volunteer activity embodies the spirit of Community Trusteeship.* Nominee’s involvement must be beyond basic school activities. To be eligible the volunteer work must have been performed in Laramie County and be ongoing. Nominee’s time commitment to volunteer activity must be significant. Organizations served by nominee must serve the community as a whole. Volunteers are eligible to receive the YES award only once.

*Community Trusteeship: A sense of stewardship of the community

and it’s resources as a living trust to be preserved and enhanced for

the future; an individual’s personal, conscious decision to seek and

work for the common good, and to act as a trustee of the entire

community.

How to nominate someone for this award–

Anyone may nominate a young person for this award. Send completed nomination forms to the Chamber Office, 121 West 15th Street, Suite 204, Cheyenne, WY 82001. Nomination deadline extended, please send back by May 1st. Once nominated, the individual will be sent the full application form for review by our panel of judges. The full nomination form is due back to the Chamber Office no later than May 15, 2009 and is available at www.cheyennechamber.org

Once nominated, a student must fill out an application form to return to the Chamber. Both forms are available above.
